the car I was driving was nose down and completely under water except for part of the rear tires. when they pulled our car out of the water, the radio was still playing. I was actually uninjured, just a few scratches from broken glass. My mom was knocked unconcious and was in intensive care for a couple of weeks. She very nearly drowned and if it weren't for the truck driver she would be gone. He jumped in and found her in the car and pulled her out and did cpr till she started breathing again.

Ever Have A Close Call?
by rocketman inyesterday i had a close call on the road - an out-of-control pickup truck veered into my lane, spinning as it approached and crashed into a pole about 50 feet in front of my car.
this is the second close encounter i've had, (both involving someone driving a pickup truck).
in this case, a couple of seconds made a huge difference, since i may have been directly hit had i just been a bit further along in my drive.. i would imagine that once a few days pass, i'll give less and less thought to the incident and i doubt it will precipitate major changes in my life or outlook (which i generally think is pretty healthy).

Where we live, Walmart is the only full line grocery store open past 6 pm within 25 miles. I will actually make the 30 mile drive to Krogers occasionally. Just Ron drives 15 miles to go to a little grocery store (closes at 5:30 pm LOL) to get chicken, pork, and whole wheat egg noodles. We buy a lot from the local produce growers, we grow a lot of stuff ourselves, and we buy our beef by the side from a family member. I don't generally buy premade baked goods, other than sandwich bread. I've even made homemade from scratch donuts.

On my way into work today,,,,,
by Jomavrick ini was listening to some southern radio preacher giving his sermon.
he was talking about the need to sell out to god and not just say that you love god but prove it.
he then said something that made me laugh - he said " a wife doesn't prove that she loves her husband in the parlor, she proves her love for him in the kitchen".. now i find that hilarious for a couple reasons, what do you ladie's and gents think??

as long as you sanitize the counters when you're done, I say feel free to show your love in the kitchen

I read them both long before I became a dub. Amazing how a person can shut down his thinking ability. I read 1984 again after I left the borg, and it really struck me how well it fit.
